    Add Detroit to that list:

    Startupweekend: http://startupweekend.com/
    TechNow09: http://www.technow09.com/
    Midwest Digital Conference: http://wearemodule.com/conference/

Ok great, Detroit has been added. Thanks for the info!

Boston: POPSignal (http://www.popsignal.com) - events that range from 20 attendees to those with over 500.
  • Fraser · 10 months ago
Hi David, it looks like POPSignal is a start-up that aggregates local events and meetups. It's a great idea (we used another events directory startup, http://www.garysguide.org/, to collect the aggregate list of events).

This list is about taking the aggregate list of events and filtering it down to the most beneficial ones so that you can know which ones to attend in cities where you don't live.
  • David · 10 months ago
Fraser, POPSignal mostly organizes mixers in Boston for venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, technologists, marketers and media influencers. Attended by >500. http://popsignal.com/index_invite.html

Everything else they do is just bonus.

Phoenix is the 5th largest city in the US. Thanks for the love ;p
All Phoenix tech events and more can be found here ... http://meetupstogoto.com/
  • Fraser · 10 months ago
Chasers - that list is an awesome reference. Thanks for sharing it. We'll definitely add Phoenix to the list. It wasn't an oversight, we just didn't have a knowledgeable person to tap into.

Can you identify the best 3 events from the complete list that you linked to? I'll add those to the post.

    Gangplank Hacknight - http://gangplankhq.com/
    Refresh Phoenix - http://refreshphoenix.org/
    Ignite Phoenix - http://www.ignite-phoenix.org/

    Thanks :D
  • Fraser · 10 months ago
Perfect! I've added these events and links. It would be great to promote this list within the Phoenix community :)

sorry guys ya'all missed a ton of monthly events in nyc that have more "knowledge" as you call it than say ignite does - there's the Web2NewYork monthly event (it's tomorrow), techaviv which has 250+ a month, not to mention all the great developer monthly gatherings in nearly every language available. i could go on... :)
  • Fraser · 10 months ago
Hi Allen, thanks for stopping by.

We're not necessarily looking for the events with more 'knowledge' -- we're trying to filter based on the quality of the networking, the enthusiasm of the participants for web apps, etc.

Even though we're in NY it was hard for us to filter all of the events that occur here. For instance, I've never been to Web2NewYork and because they have made their meetup group completely private it is hard to gauge the quality of it. If you say that it's a good one I'll add it to the list!

Edit: and no need to apologize, we know that this list is complete and incorrect. Help us refine it and it can become a great resource for the entire community :)
  • centernetworks · 10 months ago
you think the networking at the ny tech meetup is good? maybe i should do a nyc conference/event rating based on my experiences going to so many events. for example, i think the entrepreneur's roundtable has quickly become one of my favorite events. drupal monthly is great too, as is the ny video 2.0 meetup - you know how i feel about discovery :)

Thanks for putting this together, guys. This is an excellent resource.
  • Fraser · 10 months ago
Thanks for providing some insight into what's hot in SD :)
  • Scobleizer · 10 months ago
You should add event from my calendar. On first look my calendar is more complete: http://upcoming.yahoo.com/user/138148/
  • Fraser · 10 months ago
    Hi Robert,

Your calendar is definitely more complete -- we actually used your calendar as one of the aggregate sources.

We found it difficult to identify the most beneficial events in major cities. The aggregate lists simply contained too many events of various sizes, and unknown quality. We've taken the longer lists and filtered them via local knowledge by turning to our community and network.
  • Scobleizer · 10 months ago
Cool, one neat thing about Upcoming.org, though, is you can see how many people are attending each event AND you can see WHO is attending them. I know that an event that attracts Scott Beale will be different than one that attracts Chris Brogan, for instance. But I like your list too and clicked like on it on friendfeed so other people would see it as well.

Who's from Las Vegas? It's a shame that given all of the conferences that occur in Vegas we don't have any monthly events and meetups listed yet for the city!

    Here's a week long event: http://web20university.com
  • Steffan Antonas · 10 months ago
    I second that!
  • glasswool · 10 months ago
Thank you for your efforts, anyone from Texas?
  • Deborah · 10 months ago
Thanks for including Refresh Detroit in your list!
